Priti Patel is a British politician who served as Home Secretary from 2019 to 2022. A member of the Conservative Party, she was Secretary of State for International Development from 2016 to 2017.
Andrew Lansley recommended Patel for a position as an intern at the Conservative Central Office, which is now known as the Conservative Campaign Headquarters. Patel’s internship began after he graduated from college (then Head of the Conservative Research Department).
Patel served as the head of the press office for the single-issue Eurosceptic party known as the Referendum Party from 1995 to 1997.
Patel rejoined the Conservative Party in 1997 after being offered a position to work for the Conservative Party’s new leader, William Hague, in his press office. In this role, Patel was responsible for maintaining positive connections with the media in London and the South East of England.
Patel resigned his position as an employee of the Conservative Party in 2000 to take a position with Weber Shandwick, a public relations consulting firm.
Patel was reportedly one of seven Weber Shandwick employees that worked on the large account known as British American Tobacco (BAT), according to an investigative investigation that was published in The Guardian in May of 2015.

Priti Patel tied the knot with Alex Sawyer, a marketing consultant, in the year 2004. While both were employed in public relations, the pair began dating.
Mr. Sawyer is a member of the Conservative Party and serves as Cabinet Member for Communities on the council of the London Borough of Bexley. In addition, he is employed by the NASDAQ stock market in the United States.
In addition to that, he managed her office on a part-time basis from February 2014 until August of 2017.
When Patel’s husband was subjected to criticism for the high salary that she paid him to operate her office while he was also working two other jobs, she decided to terminate his employment.
