Following the death of local fashion designer Lebohang “Quiteria” Kekana, who died on Sunday at his Melville home in Johannesburg after a brief fight with cancer, condolences are pouring in.
Vincente Moeete, Kekana’s brother, said the family has requested seclusion to grieve their loved one, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a malignancy that develops in a kind of white blood cell called a plasma cell. Kekana’s kid, parents, and siblings are left behind.
“It is with great regret and grief that the Kekana family confirms the untimely departure of worldwide fashion designer, son, father, and brother Lebogang Quiteria Kekana, 38, following a short fight with cancer,” the statement said. Quiteria went dead at his Melville home on April 17th, 2022.”
He shot to stardom in 2014 when he co-founded Queteria & George with his former buddy George Malelu. They were unstoppable as a team, designing gorgeous outfits and outfitting well-known South Africans.
They exhibited their designs at events such as the African Fashion International, Arise Fashion Week in Nigeria, Afrimma Virtual Fashion Show, and Adama Paris’ Dakar Fashion Week.
In 2019, the two parted ways, with Kekana going it alone and launching his own fashion company, Quiteria Atelie.
He dressed American singer Beyoncé at the 2018 Global Citizen performance in Johannesburg, among others including Boity Thul0 and Natasha Thahane.
The family stated that the details of the memorial service and funeral will be released as soon as possible.
