Raju Srivastava was an Indian comedian, actor, and politician. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014. He expressed his concern about the profanity in comedy shows in an interview from 2009 at that time. He thought the comics should learn self control. In 2010, Srivastav received threatening calls from Pakistan instructing him not to make jokes about Pakistan and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim during his performances. He had performed more than 2,800 live performances by 2009.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Srivastava was a Samajwadi Party candidate from Kanpur. He returned the ticket on March 11 because, according to him, the local party units were not giving him enough support. On March 19, 2014, just a few days after quitting SP, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He had recorded commercials as a brand ambassador for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
On August 10, 2022, as he was working out in the gym, he complained of chest pain and shortly after that, had a heart attack. A ventilator was installed after he underwent an angioplasty. Neurologists also treated him as swelling in his brain was seen while he was receiving treatment.His health had been described as grave ever since the heart attack, and on September 21, 2022, he passed away while receiving treatment at Delhi AIIMS.
