Reid Detmers is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB). Detmers was selected tenth overall by the Angels in the 2020 MLB draft and he made his MLB debut in 2021.
Originally from Nokomis, Illinois, where he was raised and went to high school, Detmers now lives in New York City. He was chosen All-Prairie State Conference three times as a freshman on the baseball team.
As his junior season approached, he made a firm decision to attend the University of Louisville over other schools like Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri.
Detmers got a first-team All-State selection as a junior after a record of 8–1 with a 1.16 ERA and 117 strikeouts.
When Detmers’ mother acquired a new career, his family relocated to Chatham, Illinois, and he switched to Glenwood High School for his final year of school.
First-team All-State honors were once again bestowed upon Detmers, this time for his 9–1 record with a 0.84 earned run average and 153 strikeouts as a senior.
However, Detmers chose to attend Louisville rather than sign a contract with Atlanta Braves after being taken in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2017.
