They would go on to dominate the league in the 1960s and 1980s, meeting six times in the 1960s, three times in the 1980s, and twice in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
With 17 championships apiece, the Lakers and Celtics are tied for the most in the NBA, 12 for the L.A. Lakers and 5 for the Minneapolis Lakers. They have a combined total of 34 championships in the NBA’s 74-year history.
The Celtics and Lakers have respective all-time winning records as of 2018. Boston is the only team with a winning overall record versus the Lakers as of the end of the 2020–2021 season.
