Roman Kutuzov

The country’s armed forces announced on Sunday that another Russian general had been killed in eastern Ukraine, only days after a top Russian air force commander had been shot down and killed.

On Sunday, Russian official media and Ukraine’s armed forces reported that Russian General Roman Kutuzov was killed in a combat in the eastern Donbas region, where the war is presently centered.

If confirmed, Kutuzov would be the fourth Russian general slain in the Ukraine conflict, which Russian President Vladimir Putin began on February 24.

Major-General Roman Kutuzov, the commander of the 1st Army Corps of the Donetsk People’s Republic, has been officially de-Nazified and demilitarized,” Ukraine’s armed forces said in a statement on social media, mocking the Kremlin’s claim that Putin’s “special military operation” is aimed at rescuing residents of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk republics from “genocide.”

Alexander Sladkov, a correspondent for Russian state television, had earlier claimed on his Telegram channel that Kutuzov had been assassinated but did not go into further detail.

State-owned Russian media combat correspondent Sladkov claimed that the general had led men into attack as though there weren’t enough colonels. With that being said, “Roman had the same rank and responsibilities as any other commander.”

He led the self-proclaimed 1st Army Corps of Donetsk, according to Ukrainian navy infantry officer Dmitry Ivanov,” said in an interview.

When the Russian general ordered his soldiers to invade a settlement in the Donetsk region on Sunday, Ivanov “was forced to spearhead the assault,” as he posted on Facebook.
