British-American author, Salman Rushdie, full name Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie is of Indian descent. His writing frequently combines historical fiction and magical realism, and it focuses on the interactions, clashes, and migrations between Eastern and Western cultures on the Indian subcontinent.
The Satanic Verses, his most divisive book, was released in 1988. Rushdie was assaulted while giving a speech in Chautauqua, New York, on Friday, August 12, 2022. Just before Rushdie was to give a lecture, a guy stormed the stage and stabbed him multiple times. On June 19, 1947, he was born in Mumbai, India.
