Sandy was born on September 7, 1995, in the town of San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic. Sandy was signed by the St Louis Cardinals baseball team in July 2013 when he was 17 years old. They signed him as an international free agent.

The Cardinals assigned him to the Dominican Summer League Cardinals in 2014 to start his professional career. He was made to spend the 2015 minor league season with the Gulf Coast Cardinals where he played in 12 games. He spent the following season playing with the Peoria Chiefs.

The Cardinals promoted him during the season to the Palm Beach Cardinals. He played for the Springfield Cardinals in the 2017 season and later earned a promotion to the major leagues in September that year. He made his MLB debut for the Cardinals on September 3 2017.

He was selected to play with the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League after the 2017 season ended. The Miami Marlins purchased his contract from the Cardinals in December 2017.
