Michael Brin is a retired mathematician at the University of Maryland and a specialist in dynamical systems

In the Soviet Union, he worked in the early 1970s with Jakow Pessin on partially hyperbolic dynamical systems and received his doctorate in 1975 at Kharkiv State University

Brin’s academic career was backed up in the Soviet Union because of his Jewish origins.

He worked at Gosplan in economic planning, and his wife Eugenia was a scientist in NASA Goddard Space Flight Center research.

Brin, therefore, applied for an exit visa and was able to emigrate to the USA with his family in 1979.

Brin is the father of Google co-founder Sergey Brin
