Ward started his professional career with the Orem Owlz before moving up to the Burlington Bees. In 201 at-bats for the two teams, he hit a combined.348 (2nd among minor league Angels players)/.457/.438 with three home runs, 31 RBIs, and six stolen bases. He received the Pioneer League Mid-Season All-Star honor.

He switched from catcher to the third baseman before the 2018 season. On August 14, 2018, he received his first call to the major leagues, and that same day, he made his MLB debut.

On April 16, 2022, he played his first game of the season against the Texas Rangers, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run. In his first multi-homer game, a 3–0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on April 25, 2022, Ward hit two home runs and handled all of the team’s offense.
