Todd Kalas Biography

Todd Harry Kalas was born on December 31, 1965 in Houston, Texas, and has worked as a television play-by-play announcer for the Houston Astros baseball team since 2017.

In 1988, Kalas received a degree in broadcast journalism from Syracuse University’s S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

During his time at Syracuse, he worked as a sportscaster for WAER radio.

As the Clearwater, Florida-based sports director for Vision Cable, he made the move to Tampa Bay. With the Louisville Redbirds, he began his professional baseball career in 1991.

Before joining the Rays, he worked for the New York Mets for two years and the Philadelphia Phillies for three years with his father as a television and radio broadcaster.

As a member of the Rays’ broadcast staff since 1998, Kalas has been with the organization since 1998.

In addition to his regular duty as pregame and postgame presenter and in-game reporter for Fox Sports Florida and Sun Sports, Kalas has served as a color commentator on occasion.

As a backup, Kalas called the action for the Rays’ television and radio broadcasts.
