Trey Smith is currently in his second season with the Kansas City Chiefs. He joined the team in the sixth round, 226th overall, of the 2021 NFL Draft, where he signed a four-year, $3,610,708 rookie contract with the team.
Smith’s career in football started during his time at the University School of Jackson. He was a top-rated player and one of the nation’s top prospects out of University School.
Smith was a two-time winner of the Mr. Football title in Tennessee, as well as a two-time winner of the District Offensive Lineman of the Year and a two-time winner of the Tennessee Player of the Year award.
As a sought-after athlete, Smith had a lot of scholarship offers from Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Alabama but chose Tennessee instead.
He enrolled at the University of Tennessee (UT) in 2017 and played three seasons of college football for the Tennessee Volunteers.
Smith played in all twelve games as a true freshman for Tennessee, starting at right guard and then switching to left tackle. In recognition of his accomplishments throughout the 2017 campaign, he was voted to the second team of All-SEC performers.
Smith started the first seven games at left tackle for Tennessee this season, but he was sidelined for the rest of the year when blood clots were found in his lungs.
Prior to the Volunteers’ spring practice in 2018, the problem was initially identified but was believed to have been fixed.
