From 1979 until 1999, Victor Herbert Fazio Jr. was a member of the United States House of Representatives for California.
From 1966 through 1975, Fazio worked as a congressional and legislative consultant, during which time he also co-founded California Journal magazine in 1970.
From 1972 to 1974, he was a member of the Sacramento County Charter Commission, the Sacramento County Planning Commission in 1975, and the California State Assembly from 1975 to 1978.
Fazio was appointed as a Democrat to the 96th Congress (January 3, 1979 – January 3, 1999) and the nine following Congresses.
From 1979 to 1993, he served in the California 4th congressional district, then from 1993 to 1999, he served in the California 3rd congressional district when redistricting altered district numbers.
Fazio was on the board of Northrop Grumman and worked as a senior advisor at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld’s Washington office.
He was a co-chair of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, a think tank that focuses on public policy.
He also served on the Council on American Politics, which brought together leaders from throughout the country to discuss difficulties that the Graduate School of Political Management was experiencing as it grew and enriched.
