During the 2008 Major League Baseball draft, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected Miley in the 43rd position.
He made his professional debut with the Yakima Bears of the Northwest League’s Class A-Short Season division.
When Miley made his major league debut on August 15, 2011, he finished the season with a 4–2 record in eight appearances (seven starts).
With a 1.29 earned-run average (ERA) and 15 strikeouts in 21 innings, Miley was named the National League (NL) Rookie of the Month for April 2012.
