List of 5 of the Washington Football Team Best Defensive Tacklers Of All-Time
1. Dexter Manley
A nine-year Redskins veteran, Dexter Manley is the greatest defensive lineman in team history. Seven times in his career, Manley recorded 8.5 or more sacks, making him among the best pass rushers in the NFL.
During the 1980s, he was a key member of the Redskins’ defense and a feared presence on the defensive line. He is the all-time leader in sacks for the Washington Redskins, and his greatest season was in 1986, when he had 18.5 sacks.
2. Jonathan Allen
Allen was taken by the Washington Redskins in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. On May 11th, 2017, he signed a rookie contract worth $11.59 million with the New York Mets. In Week 3’s game against the Oakland Raiders, Allen recorded his first career sack.
Sports Illustrated, Pro Football Focus, and NFLDraftScout.com all selected him as the best defensive lineman in the league. Behind only Myles Garrett did ESPN place him as the second-best defensive lineman. Analysts and scouts predicted that Allen would still go in the first round despite his arthritic diagnosis.
3. Charles Mann
Mann was a cornerstone of the Washington Redskins’ defense for the better part of a decade. When it came to playing for the Redskins, Mann had a more steady run than Manley, with a total of 82 sacks and four Pro Bowl honors to his name. Redskins fans see Mann as a hero since he was a starter on both the 1987 and 1991 Super Bowl-winning teams.
