Greenwood, a player for Manchester United, was accused of physically abusing his ex-girlfriend in a series of posts that were published on her social media profile on January 30th, 2022.
Some of the posts showed what appeared to be injuries, while another featured audio of a woman telling a man she only identified as “Mason”:
Greenwood was later suspended by United on January 30, and on the same day, he was taken into custody by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of raping and beating her.
Greenwood was detained once again on the 1st of February on accusations of sexual assault as well as making death threats.
By that time, the sportswear manufacturer Nike, Inc. had announced that it was terminating its partnership with Greenwood, and the video game publisher EA Sports had announced that it had removed Greenwood from their FIFA game.

Greenwood says “open your legs up, Harriet”. Then she said, “I don’t want to have sex.” Mason Greenwood said, “I don’t care,” and when he was told again to stop, he told Harriet Robson, “I asked you nicely, and you wouldn’t do it.
What else do you want me to do?” Later, the man says, “Push me again, just once more, and see what happens to you.”
