What Happened at The Highland Park Parade?

During a parade at Highland Park on Monday, 4th July 2022, a shooter opened fire from a rooftop on paradegoers in Highland Park on Monday, which left six people dead and numerous others injured.

Christopher Covelli of the Lake County sheriff’s office and the Lake County serious crimes task force stated at a news conference hours after the killing that authorities were still searching for the shooter late Monday afternoon and “the offender still has not been caught so far.”

According to Covelli, the shooter fired from a rooftop while using “a high-powered rifle” that has since been retrieved. He was extremely covert and hard to spot. “Extremely random, very purposeful,” was how he described the crime. According to Covelli, it appeared that the shooter had used an “unsecured” ladder to ascend to the rooftop.

According to Highland Park police Cmdr. Chris O’Neill, authorities were concentrating their manhunt in the downtown part of the city, which is encompassed by Green Bay Road, and Laurel Avenue. St. John’s Avenue, and Elm Place. No longer were people outside that region instructed to take cover.

Covelli stated that the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is investigating the ownership history of the firearm and that drones and dogs are being deployed to locate the culprit.
