José Marte is currently a pitcher with the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball. He was born in the Dominican Republic on June 14, 1996. Marte joined the San Francisco Giants in July 2015 as an international free agent.
With the Dominican Summer League Giants, he made his professional debut, going 5-0 with a 1.89 ERA. Marte played in 15 games (14 starts) with the Low-A Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and the rookie-level AZL Giants in 2016, compiling a 2-5 record and 5.24 ERA.
Marte spent the first five games of the 2021 season with the High-A Eugene Emeralds before being promoted to the Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels. He played 19 games with Richmond, compiling a 3.57 ERA.
Marte, Sam Selman, and Ivan Armstrong were transferred to the Los Angeles Angels on July 30, 2021, in exchange for Tony Watson. He was given the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas, where he made three scoreless appearances, then the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees, where he labored to an 8.59 ERA in 7 games.
On August 20, 2021, the Angels promoted Marte to the major leagues for the first time. On that day, he faced the Cleveland Indians and pitched two innings without allowing a run. Marte had 4 big league appearances during his rookie season, finishing with a 9.00 ERA.
