American professional baseball catcher Chris Okey, also known as Christopher Campbell Okey, plays for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball.
He was born on December 29, 1994, and is currently 26 years old. In 2022, he made his MLB debut. He participated in college baseball for Clemson University’s Clemson Tigers.
Okey attended Eustis High School in Florida and was a baseball player on the school team. He played baseball for the American junior national team as well.
During his senior year, Okey hit.411 with four home runs and 29 runs batted in (RBIs). The San Diego Padres selected Okey in the 31st round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft, but he declined to sign.
To play collegiate baseball for the Clemson Tigers, Okey enrolled at Clemson University. During his first season, he alternated between playing catcher and designated hitter.
In the second round of the 2016 draft, the Cincinnati Reds selected Okey with the 43rd overall choice. After signing with the Reds and supposedly collecting a $2 million signing bonus, Okey made his professional debut with the Rookie-level Pioneer League’s Billings Mustangs.
After participating in nine games for Billings, he was moved to the Class A Midwest League’s Dayton Dragons. Okey completed the 2016 season having played 51 games, batting.227, with six home runs and 22 RBIs.
Due to Tyler Stephenson’s injury, the Reds decided to bring up Okey to the major leagues on June 10, 2022. He made his major league debut the following day, falling to the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 as a defensive replacement for Aramis Garcia.
