Ferrod Gardner joined the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent in 2022. The linebacker has since exuded excellence and tenacity in the competitive sport.
Garner started his football career at an early age. By age seven, he already knew the basics of the game.
He attended Trotwood-Madison High School. As a senior, he produced a total of 103 tackles, including 22 tackles for loss, five sacks, and eight passes that were broken up.
He helped the Rams get to a 12–2 record and get to the semifinals of the OHSAA Division III playoffs.
At Trotwood-Madison High, Gardner was a three-year letter winner who was instrumental in the Rams’ run to a combined 37-7 record and two runner-up places in the state tournament.
Garner attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and played for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
During the 2018 season, he participated in 13 games and recorded 50 total tackles, which put him in sixth place on the squad. In the game against Troy, he set a new season high with nine tackles.
During the 2019 season, he played for Louisiana in a total of 13 games, including 12 starts at Williams Stadium. He finished the year ranked fifth on the team with 47 tackles.
He started each of his 10 games during the 2020 season, earning Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt Conference recognition.
