Utility player Mark Mathias was officially assigned to Triple-A Nashville by the Brewers this afternoon after clearing waivers.
The 27-year-old won’t leave the club, but he won’t have a spot on the 40-man roster since he lacks the necessary service time to decline an outright assignment.
The majority of Mathias’ career has been spent in the Cleveland farm system. He normally provided a strong combination of plate discipline, defensive versatility, and bat-to-ball skills, which helped make up for a lack of power.
In November 2019, Milwaukee made a small transaction to acquire the right-handed batter, and they added him to their 40-man roster.
Mathias spent the majority of the year on an optional assignment at the alternate training facility because there won’t be a minor league season in 2020.
He did make an appearance in sixteen big league games, totaling 36 at-bats. Mathias arrived in Spring Training in 2021 with the intention of vying for a utility position.
Sadly, he tore his shoulder labrum in March and missed the entire season, but he did at least earn a major league paycheck and accrue service time while out injured.
How Much Does Mark Mathias Make?
The typical yearly wage for Mark Mathias is $700,000. Mathias’ base pay for 2022 will be $700,000.
