The Buffalo Bills signed nine undrafted free agents, including Neil Pau’u, before their rookie minicamp last weekend. Neil Pau’u spent his first two seasons at Brigham Young University (BYU) in a limited capacity before going on to play four seasons there.
He recorded 32 receptions, 355 receiving yards, and three touchdowns during that span. Zach Wilson had a significant contribution to the offense in 2020, his breakout year with BYU, when he hauled in 45 passes for 603 yards and four touchdowns.
Pau’u isn’t a burner, but at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, he has a large frame and steady hands.
At BYU, he lined up both inside and outside and could be utilized as a tight end with his arms extended.
Pau’u started out as a quarterback in high school before switching to wide receiver. While at BYU, he occasionally completed passes on sham plays. Pau’u continued to play a significant role in the offense last year, leading the club with 46 receptions, 526 receiving yards, and six touchdowns.
Neil Pau’u, who would be the tallest wide receiver on the squad with Jake Kumerow at 6’4″ and 215 pounds, would be most known for his size at the wide receiver position.
Pau’u could contribute to the Buffalo Bills’ lack of a strong wide receiver group, but he will likely struggle to make the 53-man roster this season.
