Percy Butler is a free safety who competes in professional football with the Washington Commanders of the National Football League. He is 87 kg in weight and 1.83 meters tall. At Plaquemine High School, where he also attends classes, his football prowess earned him a spot in the 2017 U.S. Army/Brees Dream Foundation Red Stick Bowl all-star game.
He turned down offers to play college football from other institutions in favor of joining the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns team at the University of Louisiana. He took part in six games as a rookie in 2018. He played in all 14 of Louisiana’s games as a sophomore, recording 54 tackles, two passes broken up, and three forced fumbles.
In the ten games he played in as a junior safety, he started nine of them. He finished seventh on the team with 44 total tackles, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, six passes dissected, and two interceptions. He had 61 tackles as a senior, helped recover three fumbles, had an interception, and was named to the second team for the Sun Belt.
He also participated in the 2022 NFL Combine. The Washington Commanders chose Butler with the 113th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He committed to a four-year rookie contract on June 21, 2022.
