Samuel Thomas Hunter Clay is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. Clay was born on June 21, 1993, in the United States.
He made his MLB debut in 2021. Clay received his high school education at Buford High School, located in Buford, Georgia.
He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was a member of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball team and participated in collegiate baseball. Clay was taken by the Minnesota Twins in the fourth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.
At the time of his selection, Clay was a draft-eligible sophomore. Between the years 2014 and 2019, Clay was a pitcher in the Twins’ minor league system.
In 2020, he was invited to be a non-roster player in Minnesota’s 60-man player pool and worked out at CHS Field in St. Paul, which served as an alternate training facility.
Clay was never added to the major league roster by the Twins, and at the conclusion of the 2020 season, he became a free agent in the minor leagues.
