Troy Andersen’s football career started as a teenager at Beaverhead County High School. He was an all-around athlete as he was part of the school’s track, basketball, and football teams. On the football team, Andersen played a rotational role as a quarterback and safety.
Anderson led Beaverhead to the Class A state championship by passing for 1,403 yards, rushing for 877 yards, and scoring 30 total touchdowns. On defense, he had 71 tackles, three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.
After his high school career, he attended Montana State University and played for the Montana State Bobcats.
Andersen played both running back and linebacker as a true freshman, and he was named the Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year. On offense, he rushed for 515 yards and five touchdowns, and on defense, he recorded nine tackles and one sack.
On offense, he had seven receptions for 45 yards and one touchdown. After two-year starter Chris Murray was ruled academically ineligible to play, he moved to quarterback in advance of his sophomore season.
