Freddy Rincon was killed in a car crash accident
CNN en Espaol reported, citing local media, that the 55-year-old Rincón was admitted to the hospital on Monday following an early morning car accident.
According to Edwing Candelo, Cali’s Undersecretary of Mobility, the accident included a van with four occupants including the former player and a bus.
On April 13, 2022, Freddy Eusebio Rincón Valencia died in Cali’s The Imbanaco Clinic “despite all the efforts made by our medical and assistance team.”
In a statement, the hospital said, “We encourage the entire country to remember him with happiness for everything he brought into life with his sporting triumphs.”
What Happened To Freddy Rincon?
Freddy Rincon was involved in a car accident that took his life.
Rincón represented Colombia in three World Cups (1990, 1994, and 1998), scoring 17 goals in 84 appearances.
We grieve with his loved ones and with our sport. He will be missed and remembered with great care, appreciation, respect, and admiration,” said the Colombian Football Federation in an official statement. “This is a tragic loss for our sport.”
The message went on to say, “We give strength, support, and our sympathies to his family, hoping that they can support this terrible and heartbreaking loss.
His former club, Real Madrid, expressed its sympathies and affection to Rincón’s family, teammates, and coaches as well as all of his clubs and loved ones. Rincón represented Real Madrid from 1995 to 1996.
He was a significant member of Colombia’s golden generation in the 1990s, having been born in Buenaventura, west of Bogota, in 1966.
