The Jacksonville Jaguars are an American professional football team headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida
In 1995, the Jaguars joined the Carolina Panthers as an expansion franchise in the National Football Conference (NFC). Future All-Pro lineman Tony Boselli was the Jaguars’ first collegiate draft pick, and he would underpin a dynamic offensive that helped the Jaguars quickly become a winning organization.
The Jaguars improved from a 4–12 record in their initial season to a 9–7 mark and a position in the AFC playoffs the following year, thanks to the stellar play of quarterback Mark Brunell and wide receiver Jimmy Smith.
The squad went on to win two road playoff games before falling to the New England Patriots in the AFC title game. After qualifying for the playoffs again in 1997, the Jaguars added Fred Taylor to their powerful offense in 1998 and earned their first division title that year.
The team’s 14-2 record the following year was the best in the NFL, but they were defeated in the AFC championship game by division rival Tennessee Titans.
