When was Jeff Smith drafted?

Wide receiver for the New York Jets of the National Football League, Jeffrey Alan Smith II was born on April 21, 1997. At Boston College, he played collegiate football.

Smith played for the Boston College Eagles from 2015 to 2018 for four seasons. He started the final three games of the season as a true freshman at quarterback after starter Darius Wade sustained an injury. In five games played, he ran for 454 yards and six touchdowns while completing 27 of 82 throws for 253 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Prior to his sophomore season, he switched to wide receiver and finished the season with 27 receptions for 395 yards and three touchdowns in addition to 199 yards on the ground and a score. Smith caught 25 catches for 296 yards as a junior while also rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown, passing for two touchdowns on trick plays, and running for a score.

In his senior year, Smith carried for 142 yards and a touchdown, caught 20 passes for 387 yards and six touchdowns, and passed for 67 yards and a score. With 73 receptions for 1,116 yards and 10 touchdowns, 906 yards and nine touchdowns on 143 carries, and 34 throws completed for 404 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions, he capped his undergraduate career with impressive numbers.

On April 27, 2019, Smith agreed to terms with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. He was released following the final roster cuts at the end of training camp, but the Jets then re-signed him to their practice squad on September 1, 2019.

On December 9, 2019, the Jets added Smith to their active roster. On December 12, 2019, Smith played against the Baltimore Ravens in his NFL debut, catching one ball for a total of 12 yards. The injured reserve was activated on December 17, 2019.

Smith was placed on injured reserve on September 7, 2020. Prior to Week 4, he was activated on October 1, 2020. On April 19, 2021, Smith agreed to an exclusive-rights free agent tender with the Jets.
