Kyle Isbel was drafted in 2018 by the Kansas City Royals in the MLB draft.
Kyle Isbel was drafted by the Royals in the 2018 draft out of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and has already proven to have a variety of skills that leave the organization wanting more.
Isbel is the organization’s top prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, because of his ability to hit the ball to all fields, bat for both average and power, as well as his speed and defense.
Isbel has done well in the minors, reaching A+ plus in 2019, but has suffered a setback owing to injuries that forced him to miss time on the field. Fortunately for Isbel, the Royals gave him a chance to show his worth this spring.
Isbel batted .241/.267/.586 in 16 at-bats, driving in two home runs, two doubles, one triple, and six runs batted in. While his on-base % isn’t great, he’s the type of player who might benefit from more time against better pitching.
Isbel had a few outstanding defensive plays in the outfield that could have been mistaken for Alex Gordon if you weren’t paying attention.
Isbel has done a good job of generating interest, and he should keep doing so as he progresses.
