The identity of the person who will succeed Boris Johnson as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom will be disclosed later when either Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak is selected as the new leader of the Conservative Party.
When Will the New PM be Announced?
Today at 12:30 pm, September 5, authorities will make the announcement on the new Prime Minister.
Sir Graham Brady, who is the chair of the 1922 Committee, will make the announcement regarding the results of the vote for the Conservative leadership contest.
The newly elected Prime Minister (PM) should have completed finalizing their choices for their Cabinet and wider ministerial responsibilities, as well as writing their prime ministerial speech, by the evening after the release of the election results.
After incumbent Prime Minister Boris Johnson has informed Queen Elizabeth II of his intention to step down, the winner will officially take over the role of Prime Minister the next day, on September 6.
Because the Queen is believed to have been advised to limit her travel due to persistent mobility concerns, Mr. Johnson will be required to make the trip to Balmoral, breaking with tradition in the process.
A few time later, the new leader will also meet with Her Majesty, who will subsequently request that they form a government after their conversation.
After that, either Truss or Sunak will fly back to London to give a speech in front of Downing Street, which is scheduled to take place about 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
After then, the newly elected Prime Minister will make an announcement on their chosen Cabinet.
