Wilson went to high school at White Station High School in Memphis, Tennessee. He played quarterback for the local football team. He registered at Coffeyville Community College after finishing high school.
He accumulated 629 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first season, earning him All-Conference honors. In his sophomore season, he registered 66 receptions, 1,045 receiving yards (the second-highest total in school history), and 17 touchdowns, earning him Junior College All-American accolades (fourth in the country).
