Robert Quinn was considered one of the top prospects for the 2011 NFL Draft as early as April 2010.
He didn’t participate in any of his junior season, but in January 2011, he was still anticipated to be a top-10 pick. After the combine, his stock marginally declined, placing him at No. 11 in early March.
Born on May 18, 1990, Quinn is an American football defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at North Carolina, and was drafted by the St. Louis Rams with the 14th pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Quinn participated in the Fort Dorchester Patriots high school football team while attending Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, South Carolina. His senior year was cut short by brain surgery to remove a benign tumor.
Quinn fully recovered and was able to continue playing football. Before the operation, he had 54 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, and 21 quarterback hurries. Scout.com and Rivals.com both placed him as the 18th and 19th top defensive end recruit, respectively.
In 4A wrestling, he also won the heavyweight state championship three times. In 2008, he participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl as well.
Quinn participated in football for the North Carolina Tar Heels as a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Quinn started 12 of the 13 games he played in as a freshman in 2008, compiling 34 tackles (6.5 for losses), two quarterback sacks, and two forced fumbles.
In addition, he received the Brian Piccolo Award from the ACC for being the league’s bravest player and came in third place in the voting for the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Quinn was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a fourth round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft on October 26, 2022.
