Since 2005, Jeffrey Lane Fortenberry has been the U.S. Representative for Nebraska’s 1st congressional district.
His district, located in Lincoln and encompassing much of the eastern third of the state outside of the immediate Omaha area, is represented by the Republican Party.
A federal grand jury accused Fortenberry of perjury in October 2021. Fortenberry was found guilty on all three counts of lying to investigators and hiding his campaign donation information on March 24, 2022.

During the presidential campaign of 2016, billionaire Gilbert Chagoury, a Nigerian-born resident of Paris, made illegal contributions to Fortenberry’s 2016 campaign, which were shown to be unlawful on October 19, 2021.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles on one count of conspiring to falsify and hide material facts and on two counts of providing false statements to investigators from the federal government.
