He played 44 games for the Arizona League Indians in 2019, hitting.325 with one home run and 18 runs batted in. Due to the minor league season’s discontinuation in 2020, he did participate in a game.

Tena played with the Lake County Captains for the entire 2021 season, slashing.281/.331/.467 across 107 games with 16 home runs and 58 runs batted.

After the season, he played for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League, where he had a.387 hitting average over 17 games and won the batting title.

Tena joined the Cleveland Guardians, who had just changed their identity, on November 19, 2021.

Tena was pulled off of Double-A Akron’s starting lineup on Thursday for an unknown reason, according to Matt Kardos of MLB.com. It’s unclear why Tena was taken out of the lineup so late on Thursday given that he had gone 0 for 6 with two strikeouts over the previous two games.
