Randy Gregory was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft after playing college football for Nebraska. Gregory moved seven times after leaving his birthplace of Jacksonville, Florida.
He played basketball and football while attending Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers, Indiana. Gregory was predicted by several mock drafts to go high in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft as early as May 2014.
He tested positive for marijuana at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine, which caused him to be passed over in the first round of the draft and slipped to the second round before being selected by the Dallas Cowboys (60th overall).
As the Cowboys’ starting defensive end for the 2021 season, Gregory. Prior to Week 10, he had a calf injury during practice, and on November 11, 2021, he was placed on injured reserve. He became operational on December 11.
He recorded a sack, a forced fumble, and his first career interception on a throw he deflected at the line and caught himself, returning it for 12 yards, against the Washington Football Team on December 12, 2021.
Gregory reportedly agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Cowboys during free agency in 2022. Gregory chose to sign a five-year, $70 million deal with the Denver Broncos instead due to a disagreement in the contract language that permitted the Cowboys to collect any compensation if a player is penalized or suspended.
On October 4, 2022, he was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a knee injury in Week 4.
