Teoscar began the 2018 season in the minors, despite his great end in 2017, as the Blue Jays chose to go with some older outfielders, Curtis Granderson and Steven Pearce in left and Randal Grichuk in right.
When the Jays placed 3B Josh Donaldson on the disabled list on April 13th, he was called up, and he went 2 for 5 with a pair of singles in his first start in left field that day, proving once again that he was ready for regular playing time in the major leagues.
Even though he hit 29 doubles and 22 home runs, he only batted.239 and struck out 163 times during the season.
In 2019, he had an essentially identical season, hitting .230 and striking out 153 times while slugging 47 extra-base hits, including 26 homers.
When it came to fastballs, he had some of the finest figures of anyone, but he couldn’t seem to adjust to off-speed pitches.
Despite the displeasure of seeing such a clearly good bat befuddled by some substandard offerings, he managed to put up an OPS+ of over 100 in both seasons.
In just 190 at-bats during the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, he boosted his batting average to.289 and hit 16 home runs, which was the fifth-greatest total in the American League.
His OPS+ soared to 148, and he established an effective outfield in the right field with CF Randal Grichuk and LF Lourdes Gourriel, three guys who were instrumental in the Jays reaching the playoffs.
