Meda Mládková’s real name is Marie Magdalena Františka Mládková. was a Czech art collector. She was born on September 8, 1919, in a town called Zákupy in the country of Czechia. She died May 3, 2022, of old age.
After she was born, her family moved to Brandýs nad Labem. Meda moved to Switzerland when she was 47 years old where she earned her PhD in economics. She stayed in Geneva and became an exile where she later published a magazine called Současnost, Present Time, with other exiles from her country.
In 1948, she moved to Paris and studied Art History at the Sorbonne and at L’Ecole du Louvre where she graduated in 1960. Meda was the first Czechoslovak exile to open a publishing company in Paris. She named it Edition Sokolova. Whiles in Paris, she befriended Jan Viktor Mládek, an emigrant, who became one of the first Governors of the International Monetary Fund in Paris.
They got married and moved to settle in Washington, D.C. in 1960. After 1967, Meda travelled often to her homeland where she was known to buy art pieces from artists who were banned by the totalitarian communist regime.
