Daren Criss played the lead role of Harry Potter in A Very Potter Musical (AVPM).
The plot is a parody of some of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books (especially Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) and their cinematic adaptations.
It chronicles the narrative of Harry Potter’s return to Hogwarts, his involvement in the House Cup Championship, the difficulties and tribulations of adolescence, and Lord Voldemort and the Golden Trio’s efforts to destroy the Horcruxes.
The musical was presented on the University of Michigan campus from April 9–11, 2009, and is now available to view online. Matt Lang directed the film, which was produced by StarKid Productions.
Harry Potter was played by Darren Criss, Ron Weasley was played by Joey Richter, Hermione Granger was played by Bonnie Gruesen, Ginny Weasley was played by Jaime Lyn Beatty, Draco Malfoy was played by Lauren Lopez, Quirinus Quirrell was played by Brian Rosenthal, and Lord Voldemort was played by Joe Walker.
The ensemble uploaded the complete music to YouTube in late June 2009, and it quickly became a popular video with millions of views.
