Romero made his professional debut with the Williamsport Crosscutters shortly after signing. He pitched there for the entire season, going 2–2 with a 2.56 ERA in ten games.
Romero was a member of the Lakewood BlueClaws and Clearwater Threshers in 2017.
He was voted the Phillies’ minor league pitcher of the year after recording a combined 10–3 (W–L) record, a 2.16 ERA, and 128 strikeouts.
On May 10, 2017, Romero tossed eight one-hit innings against the Greenville Drive in a BlueClaws home triumph at FirstEnergy Park, demonstrating his immense potential.
Romero was 7–6 with a 3.80 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 106.2 innings with the Reading Fightin Phils in 2018.
Following the 2019 season, he was selected to play for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League. Romero was added to the Phillies’ 40–man roster on November 20, 2019.
Romero made his major league debut on August 21, 2020, while the Phillies were on the road in Atlanta. With the Braves leading 11–2, he pitched the eighth inning.
