Veteran linebacker David Mayo is in his eighth season in the National Football League. Mayo was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
He signed a rookie contract worth $2.44 million and played four seasons with the team.
Mayo has been a player for four different NFL clubs, including the Panthers, during his career. He started his career with the New York Giants in 2019 and then moved on to the San Francisco 49ers in 2019. He is currently playing with the Washington Football Team / Commanders (2021–present).
Before going pro, Mayo started playing football at Scappoose High School. He was a multi-sport athlete who also participated in track and basketball.
Mayo was named to the All-State Second Team after leading the tribe with 10.6 tackles per game. He also played running back and finished his senior season with 1,116 yards and 12 touchdowns.
After a successful high school career, Mayo enrolled at Texas State University and played college football for the Texas State Bobcats.
Prior to moving to Texas State University, he played football for California’s Santa Monica College, a junior college.
