Don Eliseo Mendoza Berrueto, the former governor of Coahuila, died on Tuesday at the age of 91. His corpse will be shrouded beginning at 20 hours on May 18 in the chapels Renaissance of Fuenerales Martnez, and a mass of body present will be held on Wednesday at 11: 30 hours.
Following that, a memorial to him will be offered at the Government Palace, led by Governor Miguel Ángel Riquelme Sols. Don Eliseo’s wife, Lucila Ruz Mzquiz, and their children Eliseo, Carla, Federico, and Lucy Elisa survive him.
He was born on April 13, 1931, in San Pedro de las Colonias, Coahuila, and was a Mexican politician of the Institutional Revolutionary Party. He was also the federal government’s Deputy Secretary three times.
Prior to becoming governor of Coahuila, he was a PRI delegate in Tamaulipas and Baja California, president of the National Peasant Confederation, a researcher for the Mexican Bank of Foreign Trade, Senator for Coahuila from 1976 to 1982, undersecretary of Higher Education, a federal deputy for Coahuila’s first congressional district from 1985 to 1987, and president of the Great Commission of the H. Chamber of Deputies.
He was a local deputy and president of the Managing Board in the LIX Legislature of the Congress of the State of Coahuila from 2012 to 2014 after governing Coahuila from 1987 to 1993.
Among his many economic and political publications are Apuntes Universitarios (1980), El Presidencialismo Mexicano (1996), Actitudes Revolucionarias, La Convención de Aguascalientes, and El Mundo del Comercio y la Competitividad.
Don Eliseo Mendoza Berrueto released his latest book “Una Larga Jornada” in March, an autobiography in which he shows about his profession and life, with the assistance of the author’s descendants, Dolores Quintanilla’s publishing business, and the State Government.
Don Eliseo Mendoza Berrueto received national and international awards, including decorations from Great Britain, France, Iran, and Egypt.
