Faustin-Archange Touadera is a Central African politician and academic who has been President of the Central African Republic since March 2016.
He has previously served as Prime Minister and was duly elected in 2016. Before becoming a rector, Touadera earned two PhDs in mathematics and worked as a professor of mathematics at the University of Bangui.
He remained to teach mathematics even as a rector and then as Prime Minister, citing the scarcity of skilled professors and the fact that being in the classroom allowed him to retain intimate contact with the general population.
Even as President, he has continued to visit campus and teach his advanced mathematics class when he is not traveling abroad.
Pr Touadera, as rector of the University of Bangui, was instrumental in the founding of the Euclid Consortium, which later became EUCLID in 2008.
As Prime Minister, he signed the convention formalizing the Central African Republic’s membership in the organization and finalized the organization’s headquarters arrangement.
Pr Touadera received the honorary title of “President d’Honneur” of the “Pôle Universitaire Euclide” which he helped establish via his innovative leadership at the University of Bangui when he was elected President in 2016. He invited a EUCLID delegation to his investiture.
