Who is New York Yankees TV Announcer Michael Kay?
Michael Neil Kay is a New York Yankees television play-by-play commentator and the host of Centerstage on the YES Network, as well as the host of The Michael Kay Show on WEPN-FM in New York City and ESPN Xtra on XM Satellite Radio.
Michael Kay, a nephew of actor Danny Aiello, was born in the Bronx, New York. Kay wore No. 1 in Little League for his favorite player, Bobby Murcer, because he was a huge Yankees fan.
He did all the school papers he could about the Yankees since he wanted to be the announcer for them when he grew up.
Kay started reporting for WFUV when she was a student at Bronx High School of Science and afterward at Fordham University. He graduated from Fordham University with a bachelor’s degree in communication.
Michael Kay Career
Kay began his professional career as a general assignment writer for the New York Post in 1982, progressing to sports-specific assignments for college basketball, the National Basketball Association, and the New Jersey Nets over time. In 1987, he was assigned to cover the Yankees as a beat writer.
Kay departed the Post for the Daily News in 1989, continuing focusing on the Yankees. Starting in 1989, Kay also worked as a Yankee reporter for the Madison Square Garden Network.
From 1992 until 2001, Kay and Sterling worked together as the team’s radio announcers on WABC. In 1998, Kay and Sterling collaborated on a nightly radio show called Sports Talk with John Sterling and Michael Kay, which aired on WABC.
The duo broadcast Yankee Talk, a weekend pre-game radio show, throughout the baseball season. Kay had his own show on WABC from 1992 to 1993.
ay worked as a spot reporter on ABC Radio during that time, performing off-season broadcasts with Sterling and as a fill-in sports reporter on WABC-TV during that time.

On February 12, 2011, Kay married television journalist Jodi Applegate, with former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani presiding.
Former Yankees Al Leiter, Tino Martinez, Paul O’Neill, actor Robert De Niro, actor Bobby Cannavale, and actor/uncle Danny Aiello were among the guests.
Caledonia, the couple’s daughter, was born in 2013, and Charles, the couple’s son, was born in 2014.
He lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, with his family.
