Meet Derek Jeter
Derek Sanderson Jeter is a former professional baseball shortstop, businessman, and baseball executive from the United States. His role as CEO and a minority owner of the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB) began in September of 2017.
As a player, Derek Jeter played for the New York Yankees for the entirety of his two-decade MLB career. With 396 of 397 available votes (99.75 percent), he received the second-highest percentage in MLB history behind only Mariano Rivera and the greatest percentage by a position player. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first eligible year, 2020.
Jeter, a five-time World Series champion, is widely recognized as one of the Yankees’ most important contributions to their success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. As a member of the Yankees, he holds the all-time record for hits (3,465), doubles (544), and games played (2747), as well as the all-time record for stolen bases (358). (11,195).
All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards, five Silver Slugger Awards, two Hank Aaron Awards, and a Roberto Clemente Award are among his many honors. As the 28th player in MLB history to accomplish the milestone of 3,000 career hits, Jeter completed his career as the league’s sixth-highest career hitter and the league’s best shortstop. Earlier this year, the Yankees announced that his jersey number 2 would be retired.
