Who is Youn Yuh-Jung
Youn Yuh-Jung is a South Korean actress with almost five decades of experience in film and television.
An Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA Award, an Independent Spirit Award, and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award nomination are among her achievements.
For her work in Minari, she received international acclaim (2020).
Her widely praised performance as Soon-ja in the film earned her the distinction of being the first Korean actress to win a Screen Actors Guild Award, an Indie Spirit Award, a British Academy Film Award, and an Academy Award, as well as the first to be nominated for a Critics’ Choice Movie Award, all in the category of Best Supporting Actress.
Youn was a rising celebrity in South Korea by the late 1960s, and her performance in Woman of Fire earned her a number of honors (1971).
She had a long break from acting before returning in the late 1980s. Youn is also recognized for her roles in the South Korean films The Housemaid, The Taste of Money, The Bacchus Lady, and Canola, in addition to her work in Woman of Fire and Minari.
She is well recognized for her matriarch roles in the South Korean family dramas Men of the Bath House (1995), Be Strong Geum Soon, Daughters-in-Law, My Husband Got a Family and Dear My Friends.
She will star in the Apple TV+ sitcom Pachinko, which will premiere in 2022.
