The Detroit Police Department informed The Ring that no other information was provided, but that a 28-year-old man with that name was shot and murdered by a relative at 6:26 p.m. in the 9300 block of Stout Street.

Jones, who won the 2016 National Golden Gloves, had a final pro record of 9-7 (3 knockouts). His stated amateur record was 52-2. Under the guidance of Roshawn Jones and Kenneth Ross, he turned professional in 2016 and won his first eight fights.

However, after leaving the camp, he lost seven of his subsequent eight fights. His lone victory during that time period came against the undefeated Donte Stubbs in an unexpected majority decision.

Jones returned to the Roshawn Jones camp before his most recent fight, a unanimous decision loss against Andrew Murphy in July. Jones was preparing for a new fight at the time of his death.

Jones participated in three bouts at “The Bubble” at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as part of Top Rank’s boom period boxing programs on ESPN. He also had an appearance on the Canelo Alvarez-Callum Smith undercard, where he was stopped by Austin “Ammo” Williams in the first round.

Roshawn Jones said it was important to remember Isiah Jones’ bravery in the ring.
