William Hernandez plays guard for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League as a professional football player. He weighs 152 kg and stands 1.88 m tall. He attended Chaparral High School. He played collegiate football for the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Miners team from 2013 to 2017.
After redshirting his freshman season, he started each of the 49 games from 2014 through 2017. After the 2016 season, he was named to the second team of All-Americans. At the conclusion of the 2017 season, he was selected for the C-USA first team. He was also given a pass to the College Football All-Star Challenge. Hernandez was taken by the New York Giants in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
He inked a four-year, $7.45 million deal with the New York Giants on May 12, 2018, with $5.08 million guaranteed and a $3.49 million signing bonus. He was selected to the PFWA All-Rookie Team and began the season as the Giants’ starting left guard, starting all 16 games. He tested positive for COVID-19, and the Giants put him on the reserve/COVID-19 list in October 2020.
He rejoined the active roster in November 2020. He was able to return, but for the rest of the season he was only a backup left guard as Shane Lemieux, a rookie, won the starting left guard job. He entered into a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals on March 28, 2022.
