Zach McCloud plays linebacker professionally for the National Football League’s Denver Broncos squad. He went to Santaluces High School, where he played football in high school. After graduating from high school, he turned down offers from other universities to play college football with the Miami Hurricanes at the University of Miami.
He had a strong first campaign in 2016 as a true freshman, starting at linebacker in 11 of the team’s 13 games and recording 37 tackles overall. He also recorded two pass breakups, four quarterback hurries, 3.5 tackles for loss, and one blocked punt. As a sophomore in 2017, he played in all 13 games, made 11 starts, and recorded 48 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks.
During that season, he was a key defensive player for the club and was named ACC Co-Linebacker of the Week once. He took part in all 13 games and nine starts as a junior in 2018. With 44 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks by season’s end, he had a strong season. He started one game, participated in four, and recorded a total of nine tackles and one PBU as a senior in 2019.
He played in nine games and made eight starts as a redshirt senior in 2020. Before the season, he was also chosen as one of the four team captains. With regard to total tackles, he had two sacks and a total of 27 for the year. The Denver Broncos acquired him as a free agent after the 2021 NFL draft.
