Justin Patrick Herbert is a quarterback in American football for the National Football League’s Los Angeles Chargers. He attended Oregon University, where he won the 2019 Pac-12 Championship and was voted the Rose Bowl’s MVP in 2020.
After Tyrod Taylor suffered a punctured lung in pre-game, Herbert was named the Chargers’ starting quarterback for the second game of his rookie season. There were numerous rookie records broken by him, including most touchdown passes (50) and most 300-yard games (three). He was voted AP NFL Offensive Rookie of Year.
Herbert was born on March 10, 1998, in Eugene, Oregon. He attended Sheldon High School, where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. In the third game of his junior season, he broke his leg, delaying his recruitment process. He tossed for 3,130 yards and 37 touchdowns as a senior and rushed for 543 yards and ten scores.
He was voted first team all-state and offensive player of the year in the Southwest Conference, but initially received no scholarship offers from big collegiate colleges. Northern Arizona, Portland State, and Montana State all issued offers prior to Nevada and Oregon making his sole FBS offers. Herbert committed to the University of Oregon in October 2015.
