British politician Christian Matheson is a member of the Labour Party. In Warrington, England, on January 2, 1968, he was born. He graduated with a degree in economics and politics from the London School of Economics after attending Manchester Grammar School and pursuing his college career there. In June 2013, he was chosen to represent Chester as the Labour Party’s congressional candidate.

With a majority of 93 votes, he defeated Conservative Stephen Mosley in May 2015 to win the seat, giving him the third-smallest majority of any parliamentary constituency in the UK following the 2015 general election. He joined the Commons Committee on Culture, Media, and Sports in July 2015.

After Matheson increased his margin of victory from 93 to 9,176, Chester became a safe seat in the 2017 election. Despite the Conservative Party and Labour receiving lower percentages of the vote, he successfully defended his seat for a second time in a row with a majority of 6,164 votes in the 2019 election.

On October 21, 2022, the Independent Expert Panel recommended that Matheson be suspended from the House of Commons for four weeks owing to allegations of “serious sexual misconduct.” The legislature may recall him in accordance with the 2015 Recall of MPs Act. He was a zealous supporter of the People’s Vote movement.
